Dolphin's Academy

Bilingual elementary school in Playas del Coco, with curricula developed in alliance with Oxford and Cambridge.

Dolphin's Academy is a bilingual elementary school in Playas del Coco — which makes it the closest school to a lot of the houses up on that end of the coast.

What they offer

Elementary, bilingual, with academic curricula developed in alliance with Oxford University and Cambridge University. That is their framing, and it is unusual for a school this size on this coast.

They describe their aim as developing "confident, conscious, and well-prepared individuals" through academic, emotional and social development, preparing global citizens with the knowledge, values and confidence to navigate an evolving society.

The honest limits

Two things to know before you build a plan around it.

It is elementary only. No middle school, no high school. If you are buying in Coco with a five-year-old, this school covers the next several years and then you are choosing again — realistically Lakeside at Sardinal or La Paz's Tempisque campus, both a drive inland.

They publish very little. No student numbers, no class sizes, no tuition, no campus detail. Everything above is what they state themselves, and it is not much. The visit is doing all the work here.

Who it fits

Families in Coco, Ocotal or Hermosa with young kids who want a bilingual school close to home rather than a daily drive inland. For those years, proximity is worth a great deal — a five-year-old in a car for 40 minutes each way is nobody's good outcome.

Go see it, ask how many kids are in a class, and ask what families typically do after 6th grade. Their answer to that last one will tell you a lot.
